Artemi Panarin is gone, off to his next chapter with the Los Angeles Kings. His locker at Madison Square Garden now sits empty. Now, Sullivan could lose even more assets. Trocheck may not be the only key player on the trade block. According to a report, former first-round selection Braden Schneider is being shopped.



“The Rangers are still taking calls on Braden Schneider as they consider any and all trade options on the roster except Igor Shesterkin,” as stated by Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet.

Selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2020 NHL entry Draft—the same year the Rangers drafted Alexis Lafrenière first overall—Schneider still has room to grow.

Until the Olympic break in the 2025-26 NHL season, Schneider registered just 11 points (2 G and 9 A) in 57 appearances. For the Rangers, that is simply not enough. 



Still, the Blueshirts acknowledge their situation isn’t exactly compatible with becoming a cradle for high-end talent. Thus, it may be best to give up on Schneider and settle for draft picks to try again in the future. 



<h2>Schneider is a pending RFA</h2>



Schneider, 24, is set to become a restricted free agent (RFA) in the summer of 2026. It looks like the Rangers have made up their minds and they won’t be handing their young blueliner an offer. Instead, they might try to move on from him before the trade deadline. 



There is a silver lining for the Blueshirts. Even if they lose Schneider to free agency, because he is an RFA, they would receive compensation in the form of a draft pick. Obviously, the risk-reward balance means New York may be forced to stand and watch as Schneider untaps his full potential somewhere else.

Among many things, “The Breadman” voiced a strong confession on his emotions as he is set to return to New York City shortly after transitioning to Los Angeles.



“I’m a little nervous to think about coming back [to New York] in March, but I’m looking forward and can’t wait to see you all,” Panarin admitted in his message for the Rangers, per <a href="https://www.nhl.com/">NHL.com</a> insider Kevin Weekes.



<h2>Panarin returns to NYC to face Rangers</h2>



The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-kings">Los Angeles Kings</a> will visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on March 16th. It will be the fifth game on a five-game road trip for the Kings, which will include a visit to the Columbus Blue Jackets—whom Panarin played before signing with the Blueshirts as an unrestricted free agent. Seven years later, Panarin’s time in Manhattan was up, but he is showing no regrets.

Hoping to re-ignite his red-hot form, Panarin had served as a healthy scratch for the Rangers in their final four outings before the Olympic break. Now in a new environment, he hopes to pick up where he left off. 



So far, Panarin has registered 19 goals and 38 assists for a grand total of 57 points in 52 games. Despite his missed games, Panarin still leads the Rangers in points. As he joins the Kings, his 57-point total is also the highest of any player on the squad.

Now, a report suggests yet another key player could be growing sick and tired with the organization’s present in the NHL. Who? None other than Olympic gold medalist Vladislav Gavrikov, who captured gold while representing the Olympic Athletes from Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics.



“There’s a lot of rumours. I’m hearing that Vladislav Gavrikov might be looking at where’s the direction of this team. This isn’t necessarily what he signed up for,” Mike Rupp reported on The Daily Faceoff (DFO) Rundown.



Coming off a 30-point production with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2024-25 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season, Gavrikov signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Rangers. Now, it seems he might be getting cold feet about his long-term commitment to the Blueshirts.



<h2>Not that easy for Gavrikov to ask for trade</h2>



Still, asking for a trade out won’t be easy for him. Gavrikov holds a no movement clause (NMC) on his contract, but unless he gives New York a reason to deal him away, the Rangers might have no interest in parting ways with him. Whether Gavrikov truly wants out remains to be seen, too.

Though both players share Russian nationality, Vladislav Gavrikov’s situation is not the same as Artemi Panarin’s. The latter was set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA), and because of his full no-movement clause (NMC), he could decide where he wanted to be traded. If the New York Rangers didn’t agree to those terms, he could simply walk away as a UFA, leaving the organization empty-handed.

According to a recent report around the NHL, Trocheck made his intentions clear to the Rangers regarding where he’d like to play next. 



“At this point in time, [Trocheck] would like to stay East,” Elliotte Friedman reported on the 32 Thoughts podcast. “So I don’t know that you could consider him a solution for the Kings or anyone else on [the Western Conference].”

However, the Blueshirts aren’t required to meet Trocheck’s wishes. Legally, New York is only obliged to respect the 12-team no-trade list. All other 19 options are still on the table. Still, not everything is bad for the Blueshirts and Walters is now reminding New York of the talented forward it boasts in its ranks.



“There’s probably not a better shooter in the Ontario Hockey League than Liam Greentree, we’re lucky to have him,” Walters said, hinting at the kind of talent the Rangers could use going forward in the 2025-26 NHL season, via SNY. 



<h2>Reading between the lines</h2>



Walters and the Spitfires would love to have Greentree forever, but they know—sooner or later—he will be off to New York City and the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a>. When that day comes, Walters is setting the record straight, reminding Sullivan to take advantage of a player of Greentree’s caliber. However, developing young players with potential has been the Blueshirts’ Achilles’ heel as of late.

If that occurs, Greentree could share the ice with a player he has drawn comparisons to: Will Cuylle. 



“There’s a connection there with Liam and Will,” Walters said. “I feel like they have very similar skillsets, to be honest, both big guys who play physical and can score some goals.” Cuylle, too, played for Windsor before heading to the NHL.



<h2>Greentree’s numbers</h2>



Still, that is looking ahead. As things stand, the Spitfires will boast Greentree for a while, and he will keep putting up impressive numbers in the OHL. So far, Greentree has registered 48 points (24 goals and 24 assists) in 36 games. 



Last season, he finished second in scoring for the Spitfires with 119 points. With Sullivan’s Rangers struggling mightily to score in bunches and with consistency, Greentree could be part of the solution.

In the words of several players on Team USA, they want to live “the full experience”. Still, some veterans on the team have been given some privileges of their own.



As Mollie Walker of the New York Post reported, Team USA veterans, like Trocheck and Miller, didn’t have to have a roommate in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/winter-olympics">Winter Olympics</a>. While the two Rangers forwards are close friends, they chose to have some privacy of their own in Milan. Asked about the decision to go solo, Miller needed five words to make his point.



“We spend enough time together,” <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jt-miller">J.T. Miller</a> admitted. Miller had been living with Trocheck for a while after being traded from the Vancouver Canucks back to New York. This time around, they are going in different directions, though they are most likely to have their rooms set close to one another. In the Olympic Village, players don’t have to clean up after their dishes, but even without those potential sources of conflict, Miller and Trocheck are still not sharing a room.

Such a piece of business may be the last straw for the organization’s patience with Drury. But then again, the same has been said about previous moves by Drury, and his name is still on the door. As much noise as fans make at Madison Square Garden and on social media, it looks like Drury won’t be going anywhere in the 2025-26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season. What happens after? That’s another question.



There are no shortage of trade candidates interested in Trocheck, who is currently in Milan with Team USA for the 2026 Olympics. Meanwhile, the Rangers back in New York keep working on what a potential trade including Trocheck might look like. All while the NHL is in its Olympic roster freeze, blockading any move—such as trades, call-ups, and anything imaginable. In that regard, a report can’t help but point the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-islanders">Islanders</a> make a solid argument to trade for Trocheck. 



As reported by Peter Baugh and Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic, the Islanders boast the prospects and draft assets to catch the biggest fish in the concrete jungle. Moreover, they could even afford an inflated price tag if the Rangers decide to tax the in-state move. From Trocheck’s perspective, it might be an ideal move, as he wouldn’t have to say goodbye to his home in the Big Apple, where he’s been for the past four seasons.

As much as logic and data drive every decision in the NHL, emotions also have a big say in the matter and are reserved a seat at the table. Thus, it’s hard to see the Rangers engaging in such a trade to bolster the Isles’ roster. However, Drury has used the hotline to Long Island recently, sending defenseman Carson Soucy to the Islanders.

However, there is a big question mark floating over the “Trocheck to the Islanders” rumors. Trocheck’s contract with the Rangers—which runs through the 2028–29 NHL season—includes a modified no-trade clause (M-NTC) in the form of a 12-team no-trade list. 



Whether the Isles are on that list or not has yet to be reported, but it’s a real possibility. In contrast, the Minnesota Wild have emerged as the frontrunner to trade for Trocheck, and reports indicate the organization in the Land of 10,000 Lakes has received the green light from the veteran center.



The Rangers are wary of Trocheck spending so much time with Wild GM Bill Guerin (Team USA’s GM as well) and Quinn Hughes in Milan, as they may well convince him to push for a trade to Minnesota. Still, even if the Wild land Trocheck at a discounted price, it’s a far better outcome than risking him making his way to Long Island.

On another note, Panarin addressed his exit from the Rangers. The 34-year-old winger admitted what went on behind the scenes. Moreover, he dropped a pointed comment aimed at New York—though not at <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/mike-sullivan">Sullivan</a> or his teammates. Instead, Panarin took a shot at general manager Chris Drury and the front office. In his statement, Panarin blamed them and the contract extension they offered him before the 2025-26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season.



“I don’t know if I should say this, but I feel like their offer said, ‘We’re not sure if we want you or not.’ That’s why I’m not signed [in New York],” Panarin admitted, via Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic, blaming New York’s organization for his dramatic departure.

In that regard, Drury suggested the trade is a big step toward retooling the roster.



<h2>Over, at last</h2>



All in all, it seems Panarin, Drury, and the Rangers had a lot to tell one another. However, both opted to wait until it was all said and done to go at each other’s throats. That goes to show exactly why the story between Panarin and New York had its ending already written in stone.

<h2>Why Los Angeles?</h2>



Many fans in New York will say Panarin was traded for peanuts. Regardless, many others still couldn’t wrap their heads around the why. After so much talk surrounding Florida-based organizations or clear-cut Stanley Cup contenders like the Colorado Avalanche, why did Panarin decide he would only play for the Kings? The move made even less sense after <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/artemi-panarins-contract-details-with-la-kings-revealed-as-ny-rangers-reportedly-accept-sacrifice-in-trade">Panarin’s Kings contract details were revealed</a>. It didn’t take a genius to assume he could’ve signed for more with another organization.

Well, that question has now been answered, as Panarin confessed who was behind him buying into the Kings—and it was someone within the Rangers’ organization who knows L.A. like the back of his hand: Vladislav Gavrikov.

Said he talked to Vladislav Gavrikov a lot about the Kings and that helped sell him.“



<h2>Troubling news for Rangers</h2>



The Rangers may react angrily to the information provided by Panarin. At the end of the day, a player like Gavrikov was brought on board to help the team on the ice and build a winning culture in the locker room—not serve as a PR assistant for other teams. 



However, whether it was Gavrikov pumping the tires on Los Angeles or any other factor, Panarin would’ve made a decision either way. Whether he chose the Kings or another team, that side would’ve offered New York a similar deal, as the Blueshirts were essentially forced to work something out before the deadline.

So far in the 2025-26 season, things have only gone from the frying pan to the fire. Something must change, and trading away stars should no longer be Plan A.

Sullivan breaks silence after Rangers trade Panarin

If the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-rangers">New York Rangers</a> thought trading Artemi Panarin would stop the incessant barrage of questions regarding “the Breadman,” then they are in for a rude awakening. Still, general manager Chris Drury stood at the podium after the trade went through, delivering a bold message about the newest member of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-kings">Los Angeles Kings</a>.



The two sides must flip the page. Panarin is the latest addition to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/artemi-panarin-exits-ny-rangers-projected-lines-for-la-kings-after-blockbuster-trade">Kings’ projected lines for the 2025-26 NHL campaign</a>. Meanwhile, the Rangers face glaring holes all across the lineup. Still, Panarin’s exit from New York doesn’t change how the Rangers feel about him and his time as a Blueshirt. That was confirmed during Drury’s media availability, in which there was a predominant topic.



“Artemi’s an incredible player, arguably the best free agent signing in the 100-year history of the franchise,” Drury boldly commented, via Mollie Walker of the New York Post. “He deserves a chance to win and we wanted to give him that chance as we retool the team. It’s never easy to move a player of Artemi’s caliber.”



<h2>Candid debate around the trade</h2>



After listening to Drury’s high praise for Panarin, the fact he was shopped for a conditional third-round pick and prospect Liam Greentree doesn’t sit right with the fanbase in the Big Apple.

To an extent, even Drury may be displeased with the overall trade. However, considering the Rangers had their hands tied in more ways than one, they couldn’t seek much more—or better—assets, either.

The glass-half-full perspective makes New York grateful that it was even able to trade Panarin before the Olympic roster freeze. Had they missed the deadline, the Rangers would’ve been stuck with Panarin—perhaps until the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> trade deadline—risking being left to watch him walk away as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) in the summer. Moreover, the Blueshirts would have had even less leverage in March than they did in February, which is saying a lot.



<h2>Silver lining for the NY Rangers</h2>



There were far worse paths to go down—including a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/artemi-panarin-rumors-ny-rangers-warned-about-worst-case-scenario-brewing">reported worst-case scenario brewing for the Rangers</a>—than shipping Panarin to the Kings in return of a third-round (potentially second) selection and a former first-round talent like Greentree.



Still, the trade will continue to sting in New York City. Perhaps it’s not the move itself that burns, but the feeling of emptiness that one of the best free-agent signings in Rangers history saw his chapter come to an abrupt close, with no Cups to show for it.
